Gold coins of the world - from ancient times to the present - 2024

The first edition of Gold Coins of the World, published in 1958, fundamentally changed the way gold coins were collected, cataloged, traded and valued. For the first time, a book provided a reliable basis for this. Until then, the only literature on gold coins was expensive, specialized books that were often difficult to obtain and usually completely out of date. With the publication of this standard work, Robert Friedberg (1912 – 1963) established himself as an internationally recognized author of numismatic literature. The numbering system he introduced was and still is the international standard for identifying gold coins.
From its original 384 pages, the latest edition of Gold Coins of the World offers more than three times as much information as the first edition of 1958. It is still the first and only book to describe, catalog and evaluate two millennia of gold, platinum and palladium coins from around the world. From the first coins of ancient Greece to the latest commemorative issues: you will find it here. Like every edition before it, the tenth edition expands on its predecessor, delves into new areas of collector interest, and expands many sections. It also adds numerous new discoveries for dozens of countries. The work has grown to 852 pages, which have been completely revised and updated. The authors have listed more than 22,000 types of coins, illustrated with more than 8,500 photos – now all in color for the first time. The section for each country includes tables of weight and purity. Market valuations have been extensively revised to reflect both the increased price of gold and the surge in demand for numismatic rarities. For the first time, valuations are given for up to three different levels of coin condition. Many prices, especially for the great rarities and for coins in higher conditions, have at least doubled.
Arthur Friedberg, recently named Honorary President of the International Association of Professional Numismatists, and Ira Friedberg have significantly expanded and updated their father's work. They were able to draw on the valuable collaboration of leading numismatists on every continent to produce this latest edition.
For numismatists, bankers, economists, historians, universities or lovers of fine coins: Gold Coins of the World is THE book for every library, whether public or private.
