Collectors distinguish different perforation or perforation sizes, which are determined by counting the number of holes per two centimeters. Perforation gauges come in various versions manual measurement or by an optical measurement.

A manual perforation gauge is a kind of ruler made of plastic for measuring the perforation on it you can let the distances overlap with your stamp.Another version can work with pins that all have to fall exactly in the teeth, this is easy if you want to measure e.g. in the middle of a stamp sheet. The Phila Combibox is a very sturdy plastic box for determining the perforation of stamps and for a watermark test. Move the stamp over the various sizes such that the perforation falls over the pins. It's fast, easy and very accurate!
